Guarding the colony is a job that can be assigned to colonists. Guards use physical force to protect the other colonists from hordes of zombies. There are four types of guards:

  • Slingers wear green shirts and use Slings to attack. Slingers deal 50 damage and have a very short reload time of 3 seconds. They will fire on zombies at a short range of 12 blocks.
  • Bow guards wear brown shirts and use Bows to attack. Bow guards deal 100 damage and have a medium reload time of 5 seconds. They will fire on zombies at a longer range of 20 blocks.
  • Crossbow guards wear black shirts and use Crossbows to attack. Crossbow guards deal 300 damage and have a long reload time of 8 seconds. They will fire on zombies at a long range of 25 blocks.
  • Matchlock guards wear blue shirts and use Matchlock Guns to attack. Matchlock guards deal 500 damage and have a very long reload time of 12 seconds. They will fire at zombies in a very long range of 30 blocks.

Guards can be assigned via the command tool by left-clicking to select a guard type and then right-clicking to place the job. Guards can be made to work during the day or the night, as they too have to sleep sometimes. When assigned, they will remain stationary at their post. If a zombie comes within their radius, they will turn and shoot it. Guards prioritize the zombies with the highest health that they can kill in one shot. (Matchlock guards target 500 hp zombies, then 300, then 100, whereas crossbows target 300, then 100, then 500, and arrows/slingers target 100, 300, 500.) Guards are the only job that does not need be near a crate to access the stockpile.
